Afganistan Drug Trafficing

Drug trafficking from Afghanistan is considered to be a major worldwide problem, and the UN is planning to launch a new regional anti-drug program, revealed Yury Fedotov, executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

­Russia has long been trying to get drug production included on the list of global international security threats, and now at last there appears to be consensus.
 

At the same time, while Russia has insisted that substances used for drug production must be chemically marked so as to easily track their origin and identify those selling them to drug producers, other UN members have not fully embraced this approach. 

The current head of UNODC says there should be a comprehensive approach toward fighting drug trafficking in Afghanistan.
 

“We need to develop more meaningful programs for drug prevention and treatment of drug addicts,” he said, stressing that combined efforts are needed.
